I once saw an advert for something like African Best Music Video Award. What caught my eye was the fact that all the music videos were crap. They were badly edited, the music was awful, and it just didn’t make sense. So then I thought to myself: What music videos are actually good? The answer (in my opinion)? Rock and heavy metal videos. Not just because I like rock and metal, but because the music videos are so good!
Let me explain:
Music videos tell a story. Usually the story of the song or the message that the song is trying to get across. Music videos nowadays have two parts: clips where the artist performs the song and clips that tell the story.
Now most pop and rap videos have the artist performing the song. Good. But then the part that’s supposed to tell a story or capture the theme of the song is just some random sh*t that barely has anything to do with the song. It doesn’t progress like a linear story. It’s more like if you made a video of you and your friends doing crazy things like taking turns in a shopping trolley (which is good for a punk rock song, but pop and rap isn’t punk).
Now rock/metal videos are different. They actually get the message of the song across with well-written videos and good songs. Each video plays like a movie or short film.
One of my favourite music videos is Blood Money by My Heart To Fear. Another excellent one is Monster by Skillet. These have linear stories that are told like a short film. They are both excellent. Go check them out on YouTube. I would also recommend The One Thing I Have Left by Hawk Nelson. It reminds you of The Sandlot, if you’ve ever seen that movie.
Go watch these videos and see what I mean by good music videos.
Holy fuck. I never really understood how they caught birds before, I assumed they had to sneak up on them.
How was this even caught on camera?
did that cat fucking put the thing in its mouth in midair so it could land on its feet
Post with 2 notes
This is my list of what I consider to be some of the most beautiful hardcore/metalcore/post-hardcore/emo albums ever, musically and lyrically.
Burden Of A Day - Blessed Be Our Ever After
Two songs that really stand out in this album are “Sorry Seacrest, It’s Casey’s Countdown” and “White Coats and Their Medicine”. Both are quite beautiful and even emotional. Like the album.
Cry of the Afflicted - The Unveiling
The lyrics on the this album are very well written. And each song conveys emotion perfectly. “Lift the Veil” and “The Influence of False Pretense” are probably the best songs; and the final track is one that will make you teary eyed because it’s the last song they ever wrote.
My Heart To Fear - Algorithm
This is a band that I only discovered earlier in the year; and it’s one of my favourites. The whole album is filled with well-written songs, with spidery bass guitars and interesting keyboards. “Wish You Were Here” is a bit of a tear jerker and “4th Dimension Opera House” sounds really cool.
Oh, Sleeper - Children of Fire
How can you have a metalcore list and not put this one on it? Children of Fire is one the best Christian metal albums ever recorded. The songs are heavy with one or two lighter ones in there and every one is beautifully written. It is a concept album about how both God and Satan seem to vanish after God defeats Satan and how distraught the human race becomes over it. The emotion can be felt in every song. “Claws of a God” is my favourite song off the album.
Underoath - The Changing of Times
This is the most emotional and beautiful album that I’ve ever listened to. Each song conveys the emotion successfully and there are even a few songs that can make you cry. “Alone In December”, for example. It is about the lead vocalist’s reaction to his fiancée’s death. Every song is beautiful and some have the old Underoath sound in them, back when they were an extreme metal band.
Jim Breuer on the idea of heavy metal children’s songs. AC/DC doing Row, Row, Row Your Boat is hilarious!
the first 30 seconds of this video is seriously the best thing in the world
I can’t believe how funny the first thirty seconds are!
Meet the Mona Lisa of the Prado, the earliest known copy of Da Vinci’s best portrait. Similarity in the undersketch of the painting indicates that this was very likely painted concurrently with the original Mona Lisa, by a student of Da Vinci.
There is much controversy in the art world over the question of whether or not to clean the fragile Mona Lisa, but her sister has been restored and some fairly odd later alterations removed to show the original vibrant colors and lighting. Some details, such as the sheerness of her shawl and the pattern on the neckline of her dress, have become utterly obscured in the original, but in the restored copy they’re perfectly clear.
It blows my mind a little bit to look at these two sisters side-by-side and imagine how much vivid detail could be hiding in the Mona Lisa under 500 years of rotten varnish.
THE COPY HAS EYEBROWS
Your response to a beautiful piece of artwork done by Leonardo Da Vinci himself is “SHES GOT EYEBROWS”. Alright. All intelligent life has been lost.
Yo Snooty McSnotwhine, the Mona Lisa’s vanished eyebrows have been the subject of debate and analysis in the art expert community for hundreds of years, long before your parents squirted water at each other from across the clown car and then honked their bicycle horns to indicate they really wanted to make a smug, insufferable little clown baby together.

Do you wanna come with me?
Cause if you do then I should warn you:
You’re gonna see all sorts of things.
Ghosts from the past.
Aliens from the future.
The day the Earth died in a ball of flame,
It won’t be quiet, it won’t be safe, and it won’t be calm.
But I tell you what it will be:
The trip of a lifetime.
